A federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order preventing the Trump administration from moving forward with plans to shut down Job Corps centers across the United States, delivering a legal setback to the Department of Labor‘s attempt to dismantle the long-running federal youth program.
U.S. District Judge Andrew Carter of the Southern District of New York, an Obama appointee, granted the emergency order on Wednesday in response to a lawsuit brought by the National Job Corps Association and affiliated contractors who operate the centers. The order bars the government from terminating Job Corps contracts or suspending center operations until further legal proceedings, including a scheduled court hearing on June 17.
