Ghislaine Maxwell has been moved from the federal prison in Florida where she was serving her 20-year sentence to a facility in Texas.
It is unclear why the Jeffrey Epstein associate was moved. The decision came after she spoke with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche last week.
“We can confirm, Ghislaine Maxwell is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas,” a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.
Trump administration officials and congressional leaders have turned to Maxwell as a result of fervor over the Justice Department’s decision not to release any more files related to Epstein. The House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena for Maxwell to be deposed on Aug. 11. Maxwell’s attorneys suggested she would consider the deposition in exchange for an advanced look at the questions.
She has also been pressing for a pardon from President Donald Trump, which he has acknowledged he can do. Her lawyers have also appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn her sex trafficking conviction.
David Oscar Markus, a Maxwell attorney, confirmed to USA Today that she has been moved to Texas.
The family of the late Virginia Giuffre reacted to the news with “outrage.”
“It is with horror and outrage that we object to the preferential treatment convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has received,” the family said in a statement. “Ghislaine Maxwell is a sexual predator who physically assaulted minor children on multiple occasions, and she should never be shown any leniency. Yet, without any notification to the Maxwell victims, the government overnight has moved Maxwell to a minimum security luxury prison in Texas. This is the justice system failing victims right before our eyes. The American public should be enraged by the preferential treatment being given to a pedophile and a criminally charged child sex offender. The Trump administration should not credit a word Maxwell says, as the government itself sought charges against Maxwell for being a serial liar. This move smacks of a cover up. The victims deserve better.”

Giuffre died by suicide in April and was one of Epstein’s first accusers. She was also allegedly associated with Prince Andrew in relation to Epstein while she was underage.
The prison move appears to be an upgrade for Maxwell. She will go from a low-security Tallahassee facility to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. Her new facility is solely for women, unlike the prison in Florida.
