Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel mocked conservatives who were outraged over drag shows for children during a speech on Wednesday, jokingly saying she was in favor of “a drag queen in every school.”
Nessel, who is gay, made the comments during a speech at an education summit hosted by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, according to the Detroit News.
“[You] know what is not a problem for kids who are seeking a good education? Drag queens. Drag queens are entertainment,” Nessel said. “And you know what I’ll say that was totally not poll-tested, I’d say this: ‘A drag queen for every school.'”

The comments came amid outrage from conservatives over several recent drag shows targeted at children, including one at a gay bar in Dallas, Texas, where children could be seen tipping drag queens who engaged in a sexually provocative dance. Shows in schools have drawn a special ire, as most schools hosting them did not notify parents that such a program would be taking place.
Nessel’s comments were slammed on social media by numerous conservative commentators, including Donald Trump Jr., who said the Michigan attorney general’s comments were a “great summation of today’s Democrat Party Platform.”

Conservative author and commentator Rod Dreher said he was “sick of these degenerate politicians” and called for Nessel to be voted out.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon, who has the backing of former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, vowed that if she were elected governor, she would ensure “schools … answer to local parents, not progressive activists, drag queens, and trans-supremacists.”
