Two people aboard a military jet died after it crashed near an airport in Alabama on Friday evening, officials said.
A military plane was flying from Columbus, Mississippi, to Tallahassee, Florida, when it crashed in a wooded area near the Montgomery Regional Airport around 5 p.m.
Marshall Taggart Jr., the executive director of the regional airport, said it is unclear what caused the plane to crash.

Montgomery’s Emergency Management Agency Director Christina Thornton said the plane was a two-seat T-38 jet, an aircraft typically used by the Air Force and Navy for training.
The Alabama Air National Guard has three main bases across the state in Birmingham, Dothan, and Montgomery near the crash site.

Air National Guard members worked alongside police and emergency personnel to respond to the scene, Thornton said.
"We train together, we respond together," Thornton told Fox News.
The names of the victims have yet to be released.
Taggart Jr. said the jet landed near a residential area but did not hit any structures.
The Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency is asking that everyone stay away from the area, and a safety investigation board will look into the crash, according to WFSA 12 of Montgomery.
