White House press secretary Jen Psaki said President Joe Biden condemns the rash of antisemitic attacks carried out on American soil since Israel and Hamas clashed, outlining steps the administration is taking to “confront antisemitic violence and hate crimes of any type.”
Psaki responded to a question by first noting that Biden condemned the violence on Monday morning in a tweet and adding that he has repeatedly spoken out against antisemitism throughout his political career.
“He recognizes this is a persistent evil that always deserves our attention and efforts,” she explained. “We’ve been working in close and ongoing contact — we’ve been in close and ongoing contact, I should say, with the Jewish community to offer support.”
Psaki claimed that the administration has already “taken steps to confront antisemitic violence and hate crimes of any type” by “signing into law stronger hate crimes legislation just last week.”
“We are also working to bolster our safety and security of synagogues and other religiously affiliated facilities and organizations,” the press secretary continued. “DHS has briefed security directors across the Jewish community in the United States and is preparing a public awareness bulletin that will include security message and measures individuals and facilities can take, so we have a cross-government effort that the president is quite focused on.”
