Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was discharged from the hospital on Monday nearly five days after being admitted for a concussion.
The Senate minority leader also suffered a rib fracture, his spokesman revealed on Monday, after he tripped and fell at a Washington, D.C., hotel Wednesday night. McConnell remained in the hospital through the weekend for observation and treatment and will now be transferred to an inpatient rehab facility.
MITCH MCCONNELL WINS GOOD WISHES FROM TRUMP: ‘BE WELL’
“Leader McConnell’s concussion recovery is proceeding well and the Leader was discharged from the hospital today,” communications director David Popp said in a statement. “At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home.”
“Over the course of treatment this weekend, the Leader’s medical team discovered that he also suffered a minor rib fracture on Wednesday, for which he is also being treated,” Popp added. “The Leader and Secretary Chao are deeply thankful for the skilled medical care, prayers, and kindness they have received.”

Senators received an update on McConnell’s health at a Thursday lunch after spending hours in the dark about the extent of his injuries. Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), the No. 3 Republican in the Senate, emerged from the meeting assuring reporters that McConnell, 81, would be all right and was “awake” and “talking to people.”

McConnell, who fell at a Senate Leadership Fund event at the Waldorf Astoria, is one of several senators absent from the upper chamber in recent weeks. John Fetterman (D-PA) checked into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last month to be treated for clinical depression, while Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was hospitalized in California for shingles and is now recovering at home.
McConnell was previously hospitalized in 2019 after fracturing his shoulder in a fall on his home patio in Kentucky.
