Committee fights and congressional hearings at the center of political universe: Washington Photos of the Week

All eyes were on Congress this week as elected officials dueled with each other and took on an entertainment giant.

Close followers of Washington, D.C., were enthralled with a battle over who would keep their seats on respective committees and who would fall to the “political vengeance” of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Three Democratic representatives, Ilhan Omar (MN), Eric Swalwell (CA), and Adam Schiff (CA), held a press conference, attacking McCarthy’s move to boot them from their committees.

On the other side of the Capitol, senators tried to rally support for new abortion protections, holding an event on what would have been the 50th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision. The event was held days after anti-abortion activists left town following the first March for Life event since the Supreme Court overturned Roe last year.
