Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) said he was looking forward to returning to Washington, D.C., on Monday after sustaining a serious hand injury last month.
The North Dakota Republican said in a tweet that he lost the tip of one of his fingers due to crushing his hand between two rocks while doing yard work. His return ensures that the 50-50 Senate will have all Republican members present this week, while the Democrats are missing three members ahead of several crucial votes.
SCHUMER POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 DURING CRITICAL WINDOW FOR SENATE DEMOCRATS
3 weeks ago I crushed 2 fingers between 2 rocks and lost the tip of 1. Thanks to great surgeons and 4 hrs of HBOT treatments and prayers of many, especially my grandchildren, my remaining tissue is healing nicely. Looking forward to returning to DC this evening. #GodIsGood

Cramer said earlier that the injury to his right hand risked needing amputation but that he was in good spirits and hoping to return to his duties as soon as possible.

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) are out this week after positive COVID-19 tests, and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) is recovering from hip replacement surgery. Democrats are hoping to confirm Steven Dettelbach to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives this week, and the absences could risk the vote not passing if Schumer doesn’t reschedule for next week.
Leahy’s office said he was recovering well and could be available to vote this week if necessary. Senators must cast votes in person, while the House is continuing to allow proxy voting as a pandemic measure.
