A Republican nonprofit supporting Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell is spending up to $1.5 million on TV ads.
That would buck the trend for Republican groups this year, which have struggled this year to keep up with their Democratic counterparts.
The Kentucky Opportunity Coalition, a 501(c)4 advocacy group that is backing McConnell’s re-election, will spend $660,000 on a new 30-second ad attacking Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democratic candidate. It will also spend $870,000 to air a positive ad that it has run before.
