When the Senate gavels back into session Friday, the chamber will commence a whirlwind schedule as Republicans work to put into place President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda. 

Incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is planning to have the chamber in session for 10 straight weeks to start the new year. In 2025, the Senate is scheduled to be in session for 179 days compared to 136 for the House. In comparison, the Senate was only in session for 102 days in 2024.
