Jay Clayton will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee at 10 a.m. on Tuesday after being tapped by President Donald Trump to be the director of national intelligence.

Committee Chairman Tom Cotton (R-AR) had initially planned to hold Clayton’s hearing last month, but Trump delayed the hearing until James McDonald’s nomination to succeed Clayton as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York was approved.
The president initially picked Bill Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, as acting director after Tulsi Gabbard left the role, but the move sparked pushback from Democrats who said they would refuse to renew foreign intelligence powers unless Trump pulled Pulte’s nomination. Trump then picked Clayton as a permanent replacement for Gabbard.
