At Tuesday night’s debate, Republican Senate candidate Thom Tillis of North Carolina asked his opponent, sitting Democrat Kay Hagan, which of President Obama’s policies she regrets supporting. Hagan stumbled over her words for a few seconds before saying Tillis did not “understand her record” or her effectiveness in the Senate. She then criticized Tillis’s own record as speaker of the state house of representatives.
“Your idea of being effective is tax cuts for the wealthy, gutting public education by $500 million—and yes, that is a fact,” Hagan said.
“Senator Hagan, I assume by the fact that you haven’t mentioned a single vote you regret that you’re proud of the fact that you voted with the president 96 percent of the time,” Tillis responded.
