Police arrest ‘armed and dangerous’ quadruple murder suspect after dayslong manhunt in South Carolina

An army of 300 officers arrested an elusive quadruple murder suspect on Monday after a dayslong manhunt in South Carolina that mandated residents to stay indoors.

Tyler Terry, 26, was apprehended without incident or injury, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a tweet. The “armed and dangerous” suspected killer allegedly murdered four people in two states and was the subject of an “aggressive search” by hundreds of authorities after he evaded custody on May 17 and was said to have shot at pursuing officers.

“At sunrise this morning, more than 300 law enforcement officers from cities, counties, state, and federal agencies initiated aggressive search operations in a concentrated area near SC Highway #9 and #99 in an effort to take into custody Tyler Terry,” law enforcement noted prior to his capture.

Over the last week, residents were repeatedly told to “lock their doors” and “remove valuables and firearms from their vehicles.”

Police initially tried to stop a vehicle in which Terry was a passenger on May 17, though a pursuit and eventually a crash ensued. Gunfire erupted, and the 26-year-old took off, but officers were able to arrest 34-year-old Adrienne Simpson, the driver. Since then, drones, helicopters, and multiple law enforcement agencies, including federal authorities, canvassed the area in a frantic search to remove him from the streets.

On Sunday, law enforcement said they roped Terry into a perimeter, which was patrolled by 200 policemen.

“We are confident Terry is within our perimeter,” the Chester County Sheriff’s Office wrote at the time. “Our perimeter has become thicker and is layered. We are sending teams inside in attempts to find him and force him out.”

Terry has been linked to a May 2 killing in South Carolina, two murders in St. Louis on Saturday, and two more shootings over the last few weeks. One of his alleged victims, whose corpse was found in a ditch, was the husband of Simpson, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
