Former House Speaker John Boehner ripped Donald Trump Monday as a disloyal political partner after the former president told GOP donors that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is a “dumb son of a b—-.”
Boehner, on a book tour to promote his new memoir, On the House, told Secrets in an interview, “Trump’s loyalty, unfortunately, only goes one way.”
According to reports, Trump called the long-serving Senate GOP leader a “stone cold loser” and piled him in with others he believes did nothing to stop the Electoral College election of President Joe Biden.
“If that were Schumer instead of this dumb son of a b—- Mitch McConnell, they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it,” he said of the election certification that was disrupted by the protests on Jan. 6 by pro-Trump supporters.

Trump’s comments at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida overshadowed many, many others during his presidency when he applauded McConnell for pushing through elements of his agenda and a host of judicial picks, including three U.S. Supreme Court justices.
Campaigning for McConnell in 2018, for example, Trump said, “There’s nobody tougher, there’s nobody smarter.” In praising the Kentucky senator’s effort in getting Senate approval of Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh, he added that McConnell “stared down the angry left-wing mob.”
Trump added, “He goes down as the greatest leader, in my opinion, in history.”
Boehner, who knew Trump but left as speaker before he became president, said the former president mouthed off against McConnell without proof.
“He treated McConnell yesterday the way he treated his supporters and loyalists before and after the election when he kept telling them the election was going to be stolen. And then afterward, he told them the election was stolen without ever producing any facts,” said Boehner.
The Ohio Republican also credited McConnell for his management of the Senate.
“He’s done a whale of a good job in his own way. His members trust him, they believe in him, and he’s really done just a marvelous job,” Boehner said.
His book, published by St. Martin’s Press, goes on sale tomorrow. It debuted on Amazon as the No. 19 bestseller in nonfiction.
