Poll: Make the next James Bond black

Americans are eager to break another race barrier, making the next James Bond movie actor black.

A new survey of Americans from polling outfit YouGov.com said we want British actor and sex symbol Idris Elba behind the wheel of the Aston Martin.

And they also said Americans are ready for a totally different villain: Stephen Hawking.

The survey comes as the nation is gripped with the protests stemming from police shootings of black men and in advance of the start of filming for a new Bond film, again starring Daniel Craig.

Said YouGov: “When Americans were asked in an open-ended question who they think should be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig, the most popular choice was Idris Elba. The 42-year-old British actor and sex symbol made his name as the star of Luther and as a Baltimore drug kingpin in “The Wire.” If he were to play Bond he would be the first non-white actor to take on the role.”

They also found that Sean Connery remains the most popular Bond actor ever, with 50 percent picking the Brit No. 1. He was followed by Pierce Brosnan (19 percent) and Roger Moore in third place (17 percent), Craig (11 percent), Timothy Dalton (2 percent) and only non-British Bond, George Lazenby (1 percent).
