This week’s Mainstream Media Scream features the James Comey interview by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, whose one-time boss, former President Bill Clinton, was impeached. Stephanopoulos, who helped to politicize the FBI during the Travelgate scandal, pushed Comey in his Sunday interview to recommend impeachment of President Trump.
In the interview, Comey was pushing his book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership.”
The beginning of the final segment:
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Almost a year has passed since James Comey was fired by President Trump. Since then, he’s come to some stark conclusions about the use of power and moral leadership.
STEPHANOPOULOS TO COMEY: You write that President Trump is unethical, untethered to the truth. Is Donald Trump unfit to be president?
JAMES COMEY: Yes. But not in the way I often hear people talk about it. I don’t buy this stuff about him being mentally incompetent or early stages of dementia. He strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who’s tracking conversations and knows what’s going on. I don’t think he’s medically unfit to be president. I think he’s morally unfit to be president….
STEPHANOPOULOS: If you are right, what is the remedy? Should Donald Trump be impeached?
COMEY: Impeachment is a question of law and fact and politics.
STEPHANOPOULOS: You’re a citizen. You have a judgment.
Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker explains our weekly pick: “What an orchestrated sham and an example of what makes so many have disdain for the mainstream media. Get a political operative for the other party, who is now working as a journalist, cue up an avowed enemy of the president with provocative talking points the opponent wants to make in order to sell books. And give it an atmosphere of importance by putting it all in prime time.”
Rating: Five out of five screams.
