Deep Background: Don Jr.’s meme war, Rep. Latta’s side job, President Pompeo

Donald Trump Jr. had declared himself the “General in the Meme Wars.”

In a phone call, he said about his title, “Obviously, it’s a joke … but I do think at times it is an effective way of delivering a message and I sort of taken that upon myself to be one of the better trollers as it relates to political messaging that’s out there.”

  • Ohio Rep. Bob Latta has a side job, of sorts. He teaches hunter safety courses. In fact, Safari Club International recently hosted Latta, where he taught the class to congressional staffers. Latta, an avid hunter and certified hunter education instructor, said, “I was thrilled to have the opportunity to guide new hunters through their certification course, where we focused on the importance of safety, conservation, and ethics.” …
  • The Virginia Republican Party, gearing up for Tuesday’s General Assembly elections, is going national with their messaging. With candidates tying themselves and opponents to President Trump or those trying to impeach him, the party is flooding the state on that national message. “Stop the Impeachment Witch Hunt,” screams one flier that shows House impeachment leader Rep. Adam Schiff, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Hillary Rodham Clinton in witch hats. …
  • Secretary of State Mike Pompeo picked up some pretty good support for his potential Kansas Senate and 2024 presidential run. Publisher Rupert Murdoch, at a dinner honoring Pompeo for winning the Hudson Institute’s Herman Kahn Award, said, “I’m delighted to be here with you tonight to honor a man of many, many achievements and titles: Capt. Pompeo, Editor Pompeo, Chief Executive Pompeo, Rep. Pompeo, Director Pompeo, Secretary Pompeo, Sen. Pompeo. President Pompeo. That’s really for the speech in 2025. I’m sorry,” he said to laughter. …
