Add fly-fishing to the many topics former President Jimmy Carter is getting credit for affecting as the media review the history of the 39th president now in hospice care.
The sport’s journal Fly Fisherman said that it was a story Carter contributed to the magazine in 1982 about fishing Pennsylvania’s Spruce Creek that revived interest in the sport. His story was about how then-Fly Fisherman editor John Randolph brought all the great anglers of the time to Camp David in 1980 to give Carter some tips for his fishing on Spruce.

They included Vince Marinaro, Ed Shenk, and Cathy and Barry Beck.
Carter wrote of the teach-in two years later for the magazine. “Fly-fishing became the ‘in’ thing for an entirely new generation of men and women,” said Randolph.
I also recall that in one of his first post-presidency books, Carter revealed that after his pool of reporters dropped him off at Camp David on weekends, he’d then fly to Spruce Creek and fish with a friend, and the media never knew.

President Joe Biden wants all of us out of gas- and diesel-fueled cars and trucks and humming around in EVs by 2032. But pollsters John and Jim McLaughlin said we don’t want to give up our gas guzzlers. Polling they revealed to Secrets said that by a 2-1 margin, the public doesn’t want to be forced into electric vehicles. And 86% don’t think Washington should tell people what to drive.

After COVID-19 killed it for two years, she brought it back last year and had now-Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders headline the event that typically features political figures. This year, GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley is the feature.

- PETA has asked former President Donald Trump to use his influence as a $5 million stockholder in Anheuser-Busch to demand an end to the docking of tails of the Budweiser Clydesdales. He helped PETA once before, canceling a diving mule act at an Atlantic City property in 1993.
