2020 Dems: Beto No. 1, edges Harris, Warren, Biden

The odds that losing Texas Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke will run for the Democratic presidential nomination have skyrocketed and now he is the top choice to face President Trump in 2020.

According to the online gambling website BetDSI, O’Rourke is at 5-1 odds, putting him in first place and ahead of Sens. Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, as well as former Vice President Joe Biden.

“With the amount of publicity the Texas race received, as well as the media’s affection with O’Rourke, there’s been a steady stream of bets on Beto in 2020,” said Brent Corobotuic, head linesman at BetDSI.

“Earlier this year, his odds were as high as 50/1 to represent the Democrats,” he added.

Since losing to Sen. Ted Cruz, himself a presidential candidate in 2016, Democrats and liberals have been urging the charismatic O’Rourke to jump into the presidential race.

The gambling outlet said that before last Tuesday’s election, Harris was the favorite to win the nominee with 5/1 odds (+500).

“But after an influx of wagers on O’Rourke since Wednesday, the oddsmakers were forced to make an adjustment. Harris remains a close second on the odds board while Elizabeth Warren is the third candidate with better than 10/1 odds,” said the site.
