Many liberals and progressives have doubts about just how much Hillary Clinton as president would support their issues, but Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, a retiring liberal lion, believes that the former Obama aide is a lot more left in her thinking than people believe.
“I tell you, she is much more progressive in her thoughts and her inclination than most people may think,” Harkin told Washington Post political reporter Dan Balz on the eve of her visit to his annual, and final, steak fry in the state that hosts the first presidential caucus.
His only problem with the former secretary of state is that Harkin, like others, believe Clinton keeps her positions too close to her vest and they don’t exactly know where she stands.
He said that Obama was “pretty damn progressive” when he ran and beat Clinton in 2008. Asked about Clinton, Harkin said, “Well, I think that’s probably yet to be determined.”
In a separate ABC interview, Harkin added, “I think this is something that will be developed and we’ll find out when — if when and if she decides to run, you know, what’s her vision for America?”
