Urban beekeeping made popular in part by first lady Michelle Obama’s decision to have a hive next to her South Lawn veggie garden will get a starring role at Monday’s Easter Egg Roll.
The Howard County, Md. Beekeepers will have a display that will feature one of the nation’s preeminent honey bee experts, Kim Flottum, the longtime editor of Bee Culture. The White House bees, however, shouldn’t be making an appearance. Plans are to keep them in their hive during the event that’s expect to attract 35,000.
“It’s going to be pretty cool to talk about bees to 35,000,” Flottum told Secrets.
