This week’s Liberal Media Scream is a hot one, featuring veteran journalist Carl Bernstein calling President Trump guilty of “homicidal negligence” over the the handling of the coronavirus crisis.
As a guest on CNN Newsroom With Ana Cabrera Saturday, Bernstein cited “the pattern going back to January 28th,” when Trump learned of the threat, and “since then, his response has been homicidal negligence.” He also said that the president “put his own interests of reelection … in front of the health and well-being of the American people.”
Bernstein, on CNN on Saturday, October 3:
“Let’s take a deep breath here and look at what really is the pattern going back to January 28th, when Trump was first informed by his national security adviser and deputy about this virus and what a great threat it posed. And since then, his response has been homicidal negligence. He has failed to protect the American people, and rather, to put his own interests of reelection, and holding on to the office of the presidency, in front of the health and well-being of the American people. And what we are seeing in this last week is the same thing, this willingness, this negligence, even as he himself has become stricken with this horrible disease, his interests in front of the country’s, for purposes of his reelection.”
Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker explains our weekly pick: “This kind of a simplistic and overwrought accusation is why President Trump has been so successful at tagging the press corps as ‘fake news.’ Bernstein’s first instinct was to employ hyperbolic language to blame Trump based on symbolism conveyed by Trump, not any specific preventative policies he inhibited.”
Rating: Five out of five screams.
