It is one of Washington’s scandalous affairs made into a staged event, but now its D.C. debut has been scratched because of “threats of violence.”
The producers of “Love Birds: Undercovers,” the story of political texts between FBI figures Peter Strzok and Lisa Page said the Mead Theater just informed them of the cancellation.
“The Mead Theater withdrew the event, citing ‘threats of violence,’” said Phelim McAleer, also known for his movie about Philadelphia’s notorious abortionist in “Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer.”
In a video, he said the theater cited “media reports” of security issues if the play were done.
In his email to friends, he claimed that cancellation was aimed at silencing the story about the two FBI officials who traded worried texts about the coming election of Donald Trump.
“This is an attempt to squash the content of ‘FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers’ and what it reveals about the anti-Trump forces in the government. They knew we are filming the play and planning to release it online. That’s why they banned us. They just don’t want the truth out there,” he said.
He is trying to find another venue and also said the he plans to turn it into a movie for wider distribution.
In the staged event and reading of the emails, Strock is played by Dean Cain, of “Young Superman and “Vampire Slayer,” and Page by Kristy Swanson.
