Party with Paul: Wisconsin bringing huge tailgate party to Tampa

Already known in Green Bay for hosting one of the nation’s premier tailgate parties at Packers games, Wisconsin is planning the political world’s biggest outdoor party at the Republican National Convention in Tampa to celebrate native son Rep. Paul Ryan’s addition to the GOP ticket.

Secrets hears that the “Beer & Brats Bash” scheduled for Wednesday August 29 is being expanded to a massive tailgate party the afternoon before Ryan is officially nominated as the Republican running mate.

“Paul Ryan as Romney’s vice presidential choice just made this party the top delegation bash of the GOP convention,” said Ron Bonjean, who added that the event will benefit the charity Citizens Helping Heroes.

Typically, it’s the presidential nominee’s state delegation that becomes the “it group” at the convention, but it’s unclear if Utah, Michigan or Massachusetts will take the lead. What’s more, Wisconsin is well known as a party state.

Just a day after Ryan was selected, orders to Milwaukee’s MillerCoors Brewing and Sheboygan Falls’s Johnsonville Brats were doubled now that Bash organizers are expecting a huge crowd in Liberty Plaza adjacent to the Tampa Convention Center where the GOP convention is being held. Plus, Secrets has been assured, there will be tons of cheddar cheese.

“Wisconsin Cheeseheads know how to have a great time and to help a great cause, our wounded veterans,” added Bonjean, a Wisconsin native and spokesman for Liberty Plaza, which will feature news events and entertainment during the convention.

Wisconsin’s political royalty will be in attendance. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and Sen. Ron Johnson are confirmed and Gov. Scott Walker has been invited. What’s more, organizers are hoping that Ryan will make an appearance.
