Biden support from opposition party lowest in 70 years

Despite his plea for unity on his first day in office, the nation remains historically divided, with support for the president from the opposition party at a 70-year low.

Unable to push his approval much past former President Donald Trump’s, President Joe Biden has succeeded at losing support from Democrats, independents, and Republicans, according to the latest Gallup survey.

And significantly, said the polling giant, Biden’s approval from Republicans is the lowest recorded from the opposing party — and maybe ever.

“Biden’s 5% approval from Republicans is the lowest Gallup has measured for any president in any year of their presidency, dating back to 1953 when it first kept records of job approval by political party group,” according to the new analysis.

Overall, Biden has shown to be as unpopular as Trump in his second year in office. Biden’s average approval was 41%, and Trump’s 40.4%.

In his first year, Biden’s approval was higher, but he has suffered a drop in support from most political groups.

“During Biden’s second year in office, an average 83% of Democrats, 37% of independents and 5% of Republicans approved of the job he was doing. Each of these groups’ averages was lower than in Biden’s first year, including an eight-point drop among Democrats, nine points among independents and three points among Republicans,” Gallup said.
