One of CNN’s top hosts blasted Americans so obsessed with football playoff games and the Golden Globes to express support for Paris after last week’s Islamic terror attack, singling out U.S. leaders and GOP and Democratic presidential candidates for their silence.
“Crickets,” is how Jake Tapper saw the U.S. response.
“I hope it’s not American arrogance, a belief that everyone should express shock when something bad happens to us but that our presence at an international rally is worth less than a ticket to the Green Bay game when the victims speak in accents we don’t understand,” he penned in a column.
Earlier yesterday, as our T. Becket Adams wrote in this story, Tapper expressed disappointment that the U.S. wasn’t better represented at the massive protest in support of freedom in Paris Sunday night.
But after watching the event, his concern turned to anger at the lack of any expression of support by top American political leaders.
He started with President Obama. Sure, he said, security would be a big issue, but not more than for any of the other international leaders who led the way. Ditto for other U.S. officials MIA.
“There was higher-level Obama administration representation on this season’s episodes of ‘The Good Wife’ on CBS.” he mocked in the column CNN sent to Secrets.
