Can it ever be too early for Christmas? No says the White House Historical Association, noted for its popular annual White House Christmas ornament.
This year’s gem is ready and the group gave Secrets a sneak preview of the ornament dedicated to former President William Howard Taft’s love of cars. The colorful trinket shows Taft and first lady Helen Taft in a colorful White Motor Co. steam powered car decorated with the presidential seal.
The car enthusiast introduced automobiles to the White House in 1909 after securing $12,000 from Congress for a fleet of five. That wasn’t his only major first for the presidency. During his term, 1909-1913, the Oval Office was built. The ornament is priced at $17.95 and can be purchased online.
