Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro to CPAC in major get for Matt Schlapp

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has agreed to speak at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in March, a major get for the Chairman Matt Schlapp.

Bolsonaro, often dubbed the Donald Trump of South America, could lay out his plans to return to power in a campaign against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who won in a runoff last fall.

A friend of Trump’s, Bolsonaro has made claims similar to the former president about election irregularities. After he was defeated, he traveled to Mar-a-Lago to stay with Trump.

CPAC has recently held conventions in Latin America, including in Mexico and several in Brazil.

Trump is also expected to speak at the annual conservative youth convention being held March 1-4 at the Gaylord National Harbor on the Potomac River that draws thousands of activists and is the first to give an indication of support for presidential hopefuls among younger Republican voters.

The Bolsonaro family is friendly with the Trumps and many American conservatives. He is expected to be in the U.S. often for unidentified medical treatments.

With his attendance, Trump’s, and that of most GOP presidential candidates, notably Nikki Haley, the former United Nations ambassador, Schlapp’s event is already creating a big 2024 buzz in Washington.

“As we have put on CPACs in Brazil, we realized that although our countries have differences, the political thuggery of the Left is frighteningly similar: canceling conservative news opportunities, pushing radical gender theories in children’s books, using opposing racism as a cover to push socialist economic policies, using the judicial system to silence political opponents, and widespread outrage at voting and polling irregularity,” Schlapp told Secrets.

“It is an honor to receive former President Bolsonaro at CPAC and our attendees will welcome his perspective on what is happening in the battle for freedom here and in Brazil,” he added.
