President Trump’s fundraising team Wednesday shrugged off taunts that it fell $10 million behind the $141 million raised in June by Joe Biden and the Democrats, highlighting that it has nearly hit the $1 billion mark and holds a bigger war chest.
“We’ve been on this steady clip for quite some time,” Trump Victory Finance Chairwoman Kimberly Guilfoyle told Secrets.
“Biden, they’re trying to tout that it’s some big win for him, but that’s money that’s been on the sidelines for quite some time while the Democrats waited to get their nominee. So of course they are going to have big numbers coming now, but we feel really good about ours,” she said from Montana, where she is participating in more fundraising events.
Earlier today, the Biden-Democratic National Committee team announced it raised $141 million in June. The Trump-GOP team raised $131 million. It was the second straight month the Democrats edged Trump and the Republican National Committee.
Republican officials said it was a one-month historic number and came despite the spreading coronavirus pandemic, violence against police and historic monuments, miserable media polls, and the continued economic closure of many businesses.
Guilfoyle, however, noted that the public’s reaction to much of the current politics, the president’s law and order theme, and the pop in jobs has helped to keep fundraising strong.
“It’s been such a steady, steady clip. We haven’t lost any momentum, the enthusiasm, I actually think, is picking up pretty good because people are saying, ‘Enough is enough.’ They want law and order back. They want a strong economy. We’re getting a bump now with the jobs numbers,” she said.
In fact, she said that supporters on their own sideline are coming back because Election Day is getting close, as is the race.
“We see people saying, ‘OK, we’re ready to get back in,’ because now it’s 16 weeks out. So there is more of a sense of urgency, and people are getting back in plan. And we’re seeing that with our major donors as well as our small-dollar contributors, and we’ve had a nice uptick in our digital mail as well,”
Guilfoyle and the whole Trump Victory team have been hosting dozens of big and little events, mostly digitally, and is working with several Trump coalitions, notably Black Voices for Trump. She has also joined with her partner, Donald Trump Jr., and other significant Trump surrogates for events. “I’m running a very active program,” she said.
The president is also planning to get more involved and has a Florida in-person fundraising event planned.
And she plans to reach $1 billion before August, a number the campaign plans to herald. “We’re going to try to hit that within a month’s time,” said Guilfoyle.
