Wednesday night’s “CNN Special Report” on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp has a new and special meaning to host Wolf Blitzer.
It came last year as he was exploring the concentration camp in Poland when he discovered that his paternal grandparents perished along with a million others in the notorious facility, noted for the atrocities committed by Josef Mengele.
His show, “Voices of Auschwitz,” airs tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET., a day later than planned due to the coverage demands of the East Coast blizzard.
The one-hour special explores the crimes committed at Auschwitz through the eyes of those imprisoned there.
Blitzer also sits down with “Schindler’s List” Director Steven Spielberg to talk about the stories he was told during the filming about Oscar Schindler’s effort to save Jews from the Auschwitz gas chambers during World War II.
The popular Blitzer is the host of CNN’s “Wolf” and “The Situation Room.” He was born in Germany and his parents are Holocaust survivors who raised him in Buffalo, N.Y.
