Fresh from giving the GOP response to President Obama’s State of the Union Address — while in camo heels — new Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst has been promoted to vice chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the party’s chief recruiting — and funding — team for new Senate candidates.
She joins Nevada Sen. Dean Heller and new Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton on the influential committee, Chairman Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi said Friday.
“I am thankful that these outstanding leaders will be part of our NRSC team,” said Wicker in a statement.
The team is charged with keeping the Senate majority in Republican hands in what many analysts believe will be an uphill fight in 2016.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to work alongside these leaders to protect our Republican majority,” added Ernst. “Last November, voters across the country spoke loud and clear: folks were tired of the failures coming from Democrats in Washington, from the inability to balance the budget to out of control spending to the burdensome regulations that hurt businesses. My colleagues and I are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work.”
“I am grateful to Senator Wicker and my fellow Republican Senators for their confidence in me,” said Cotton in the NRSC release. “I know firsthand the invaluable support and resources the NRSC provides to candidates and am excited to join their efforts this cycle.”
