White House Report Card: Biden puttering through debt crisis, family scandal

This week’s White House report card finds President Joe Biden at the G-7 economic summit in Japan, but his focus is on the languishing debt ceiling talks on Capitol Hill.

Our conservative grader Jed Babbin dished a “D” for the week, and highlighted the growing evidence of a Biden family financial scandal that involved the president, the first son, and the first brother.

Our Democratic grader, John Zogby, was off this week, but in his podcast with his dad, pollster and John Zogby Strategies Managing Partner Jeremy Zogby, he focused on the Durham report that graded a punishing review of the FBI’s handling of Russiagate. He said that those involved, including Hillary Clinton, and those linked to the Biden family issues “are guilty,” and he said that it is sad that the country is so divided that everyone doesn’t agree.

“I go back to my question, how many Americans think that way, and the fact that very few do is very troubling. And I think it’s very telling of the situation that we’re facing in this country today,” he said on the Zogby Strategies podcast.

The week could have been worse for President Joe Biden, but it couldn’t have been funnier. The best gag of the week was Howard University awarding Biden an honorary degree citing his “sound analytical intellect” and popularity on both sides of the political aisle. All that was needed was a drum rimshot and a “but seriously, folks” line.

And then Biden said that “white supremacy” was the greatest terrorist threat to our country. I always thought Team Biden insisted that the greatest existential danger was climate change. They need to make up their minds.

Biden flew off to Japan for the G7 summit. He’ll return sooner than planned because the debt ceiling crisis is coming to a head. Biden is still trying desperately to not cut any spending. House Democrats are trying to get a discharge petition passed (requiring at least 218 votes) to get a debt ceiling hike without any spending cuts to the House floor. Fat chance. The only question is how little the Republicans get in spending cuts.

There wasn’t much else going on this week, but the sharp stench of corruption is being detected around the White House. The more House Republicans dig into Hunter and James Biden’s businesses, the more likely it is that Ol’ Joe personally profited from their corrupt dealings around the world. The Democrats may not yet fear former President Donald Trump, but they are scared that the Biden family corruption will catch up to Joe before November 2024.
