An influential media “watchdog” that claims to be nonpartisan grades with a heavy left-wing bias, giving an average of 25 points out of 100 more to liberal outlets, according to a new analysis.
NewsGuard, whose grades can help or hurt advertising income, gives left-leaning outlets such as USA Today and the Washington Post an average of 91 of 100 points, while conservative media outlets had an average of 66 points.

The outlet also grades with colored shields: The top grades come with a green shield, and the low grades come with a red shield.
In a study conducted by the conservative media watchdog MRC Free Speech America, the average grades given out by NewsGuard changed little in a year.

“MRC Free Speech America analyzed the NewsGuard ratings of media outlets based on a list compiled by AllSides that classified their ‘bias’ on a left-to-right scale. The average NewsGuard score for the ‘left’ and ‘lean left’ outlets — which included leftist outlets like USA Today — was a ‘green shield’ rating of 91/100. USA Today was embroiled in a scandal after former reporter Gabriela Miranda was found to have fabricated sources. While the average rating for ‘right’ and ‘lean right’ outlets — which included Fox News, The Daily Wire and New York Post — was a low 66/100,” read the Media Research Center analysis.

In its analysis, the center cited several left-leaning media outlets that pushed false stories or ignored major news, such as the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, but continued to receive high to perfect green shield scores.
“NewsGuard maintained perfect scores for outlets like Politico, The Washington Post and USA Today, which all interfered in the 2020 election by trying to bury the Biden family scandal as some kind of disinformation operation,” read the study shared with Secrets.
