Americans like New Year’s Eve, but despite the hype and ads for cheap booze they won’t be partying much, according to a new Economist-YouGov poll.
In fact, fewer people will be popping champagne corks at parties tonight than last year, said the poll.
The worldwide polling outfit said that 24 percent will be going to New Year’s Eve parties. In 2013, 26 percent said they planned to party.
However, more people said they plan to stay up past midnight, maybe thanks to the TV cast Ryan Seacrest has gathered, including Jenny McCarthy and Fergie.
Those who plan to sing Auld Lang Syne at midnight the most are Hispanics, those who live on the West Coast, and 18-29 year olds, said the poll.
