He says he won’t do it, but Ron Paul backers and 30 percent of likely voters think the libertarian-Republican will challenge Mitt Romney and President Obama with a third party. Rasmussen polling also finds that 25 percent of likely voters are urging him to run.
As weak as that support looks, the news only gets worse for Paul. Rasmussen found that it’s Democrats, not Republicans, who want Paul to run as a third party. If he ran, he’d likely rob votes from Romney.
And the final insult: if Paul challenges Obama and Romney, he’d still lose and his hurt on Romney would be so slight that the likely Republican nominee would still win.
