House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi is predicting that the conservative Supreme Court will endorse Obamacare with a 6-3 vote, but she’s still girding to respond to a total defeat with a package of the health care options from the controversial legislation that most Americans support.
Listing the popular elements of the bill, such as prescription drug coverage for the elderly and allowing parents to keep older kids on their insurance plans, she said, “We can’t roll that back so we have to find a way to keep it.” She added, “We really do have to find a way to keep what is in the bill.”
Pelosi, speaking Tuesday at a private New York luncheon sponsored by Paley Center for Media, said the court decision “could go a couple ways.” The justices, she explained, could kill parts of Obamacare–or the whole legislation. Then she added, “I predict 6-3 in favor.”
Pelosi also shared a little note about President Obama’s reaction to House passage of the law. The morning after passage, she said, the president called to say, “I was happier than I was when I was elected president.”
