That glass of merlot, chablis or Budweiser in your hand is a good signal of your economic standing and politics.
According to a poll from Morning Consult, there’s a reason “Joe Sixpack” refers to the working class. More than half of the blue-collar workers surveyed choose beer while white-collar workers favor vino.
Politically, Democrats pick beer over wine by a 55 percent to 31 percent margin. Republicans are a little more even in their choices, with beer over wine, 43 percent to 37 percent.
But, the poll found, it’s the color in the glass that really gives away the politics of the drinker.
“The clearer one’s tipple of choice, the more liberal they are likely to be,” said Morning Consult. The proof: President Obama’s 2012 voters are nearly twice as likely to drink white wine, while those who backed Mitt Romney picked red by nearly two-to-one.
