Democrats and media cool with inflation, urge Americans to have ‘perspective’

When it comes to inflation under President Joe Biden, the liberal media and Democrats have decided to look away or find excuses for why it’s OK to pay 60% more for heating fuel, 29% more for eggs, and 57% higher gas prices.

While complaining about higher prices used to be a universal right, partisanship is weighing in more than before.

The latest evidence is a new Trafalgar Group survey showing that while a majority of respondents feel forced to change holiday plans due to rising prices, Democrats seem giddy over opening their wallets wider.

The survey found that more people are cutting back, 52% compared to 48%, because of rising prices of gas and groceries.

But when Democrats, Republicans, and independents are examined as separate groups, a huge gulf appears. Among Democrats, 71.2% said they are making few or no changes to their holiday plans due to higher prices. Among Republicans, though, 73.4% are changing plans, as well as 58.4% of independent voters.

The Democratic spin has been that the policies from Biden, who is jetting to exclusive Nantucket for Thanksgiving, are putting extra cash in the pockets of taxpayers, so inflation isn’t an issue.

For example, the Democratic Party on Tuesday said, “Thanks to President Biden’s leadership, the American people have some relief.” It cited Biden’s moves to ease the supply chain crisis and tap the Strategic Oil Reserve, with neither leading to price cuts.

Then there’s the media echo chamber backing up the Democrats.

On Monday, an NBC reporter suggested families replace their turkey with pasta as a reasonable cut to afford Thanksgiving. Another said they should use “heavier curtains” to keep energy costs low.

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle urged the nation to keep it all in “perspective.”

The Media Research Center’s NewsBusters team pulled together some of the best examples of the media’s effort to cover for the administration, including this from MSNBC’s Joy Reid: “The economy isn’t bad. It’s just that people are mad because everything is late and things cost a little bit more.”

On the other side was Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary, who said on CNBC that people are “pissed about inflation, I don’t have a better word than saying that.” He added, “They’re unhappy. My employees are unhappy. They’re going to vote with the cost of bread.”

Mark Meckler, who heads the conservative group Convention of States Action that commissioned the Trafalgar survey, added, “It’s already been a rough holiday season, and now hard-working Americans — who have earned precious time with family and friends this Thanksgiving — are being forced to cancel or change their plans. This is not due to their own actions, but rather to failed leadership in Washington.”
