President-elect Donald Trump, rushed off a stage during the last week of the campaign when a shout of “gun” was heard, is being urged to wear a bulletproof vest when he steps outside into busy groups.
A long-time expert of the Secret Service said that the Republican is facing a wave of threats, likely heightened after the election that has prompted violent outbursts and protests.

Wearing one might might save Trump from an assassination attempt, he added.
Investigative reporter and author Ronald Kessler told Secrets that Trump, and his Secret Service detail, should demand the protection, noting that some former presidents took the precaution.
“Presidents Bush and Obama both have worn Kevlar bullet-proof vests at large events, and I believe Donald at times has worn one as well,” said Kessler, author of The First Family Detail: Secret Service Agents Reveal the Hidden Lives of the Presidents.
He added that “often the presidents choose not to wear them because they are bulky and uncomfortable, as happened with Ronald Reagan as he stepped out of the Washington Hilton without wearing his vest and was shot by John Hinckley.”
After Election Day, protests broke out as many minorities and college students took to streets in several cities to burn American flags and whine about the election outcome.
Kessler suggested that Trump should pay attention to that.
“Donald is undoubtedly getting multiple threats a day, and while the Secret Service runs down each one, it’s unfortunately those who do not give advance warning who turn out to be the assassins,” he said.
Kessler also told Newsmax TV, “Typically presidents who really stir up emotions — such as JFK, for example, or Ronald Reagan, who’ve become targets of assassination attempts or actual assassinations — [need] special consideration.”
He also urged Trump to shake up the troubled Secret Service.
