Neck-and-neck in battlegrounds as Biden chips into Trump base

Two new 2020 presidential polls were released today, and it still remains unclear where the race is heading.

Rasmussen Reports issued their weekly White House Watch that had the national race within 3 percentage points. Democrat Joe Biden leads 48% to President Trump’s 45%. Last week, Trump was behind by 6 points, so it showed positive movement for the president and a potential ceiling of support for Biden.

Zogby Analytics issued new Zogby Polls in four battleground states and found the race in 3 out of 4 cases to be razor-thin.

In Ohio, Biden leads Trump 43%-41%. In Florida, they are even at 43%. Biden has the edge in Pennsylvania, 44%-43%, and Biden leads in North Carolina, 44%-40%.

In each, the third-party candidates were included in the questioning.

Overall, pollster Jonathan Zogby found some positives for both.

For Biden, he said that the Democrat is winning over some of the Trump base.

“Right now, Biden has the edge because he is appealing to elements of Trump’s base, such as non-college-educated voters and voters aged 65+. He also has a commanding lead among independent voters in three of the battleground states surveyed (Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina) and is winning convincingly with suburban voters and suburban women in all four states,” he wrote in the survey analysis.

Trump, meanwhile, is scooping up swing voters.

“What’s keeping things close is Trump’s domination of swing voters. A good portion of these voters live in large cities, are aged 30-49, and say their finances are better off than they were four years ago. In order for Trump to get back to his winning ways, he will need to maintain a big lead among swing voters, and he must also find a way to win back women, suburban voters, and independents from Biden’s clutches,” said Zogby.
