Demands erupted this afternoon for Congress to conduct a quickie impeachment and removal of President Trump for allegedly “inciting” the violence that swept the Capitol and stopped the process of approving the Electoral College vote for President-elect Joe Biden.
Media, political leaders, and even C-SPAN callers demanded action, including jailing the president who, back in September, told pro-Trump militants to “stand back and stand by.”
One person is responsible for this attempted coup. He is sitting in the White House, watching this on television and tweeting. He has been threatening and inciting this for weeks. This is the logical and inevitable consequence of Trump. https://t.co/z33clAmA1x

The President has been encouraging these domestic terrorists since before the election.
He could have stopped them at any moment, but instead he whipped them into a frenzy and sicced them on the Capitol.
The Cabinet must remove him today or the House must impeach.

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman tweeted that Senate Majority Leader Mitch “McConnell needs to lead a delegation of GOP leaders to the White House to tell Trump that he has to resign immediately — or they will join with Democrats and impeach him. Otherwise, fellow Americans, what you saw today will be normalized.”

Conservative pundit and never-Trump leader Bill Kristol added, “What should happen in the next 24 hours: 1. Clear the Capitol—as peacefully as possible, but in any case remove the mob from the seat of the legislative branch of our government. 2. Reconvene and finish counting the electoral votes. 3. Impeach in the House, convict in the Senate.”
Trump faced a partisan impeachment earlier this year but was not convicted in the Senate.
The new push is sparked by the violence on Capitol Hill, the invasion of the Capitol and Senate chamber, and Trump’s speech earlier in the day where he said he would never concede to Biden.
