Ohio voters agree with Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump that it’s time for their governor, John Kasich, to quit the 2016 race and get back to work in the Buckeye State.
A new poll shows that Ohioans are “sick” of Kasich staying in the race, with 49 percent calling on him to drop out, and 38 percent backing his bid to stick it out.
The survey from Public Policy Polling said: “The numbers for Kasich when it comes to dropping out are actually even worse for him with Republicans than they are with Democrats — 58 percent of GOP voters in Ohio think it’s time for him to let it go, compared to only 33 percent who think he should stay in.”
And PPP explained why in their analysis. “Part of the problem for Kasich is that voters feel he’s neglecting his duties as governor. Only 31 percent think he’s paying enough attention to his current job, compared to 49 percent who think the presidential bid has caused him to pay insufficient attention to his gubernatorial duties,” said PPP’s survey released Monday morning.
Trump has been scoffing at Kasich’s staying power, noting that he has won just one primary — Ohio’s. And he has also been calling on Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to get out.
The PPP poll backs that up too, showing that Cruz has less of a chance of beating Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton than Trump.
“Ohio continues the recent trend we’ve found in our polling of Ted Cruz polling even worse for the general election than Donald Trump. Trump certainly is unpopular- only 35 percent of voters see him favorably to 57 percent with an unfavorable opinion, and he trails Hillary Clinton 45/42 and Bernie Sanders 45/41 in the state. But Cruz is far worse off- just 21 percent of voters have a positive opinion of him to 62 percent with a negative one and he trails Clinton and Sanders each by 9 points at 44/35,” said PPP.
