With the House majority under their belt, Democrats are now turning to 2020 fundraising and hiring to push President Trump out of the White House.
Party Chairman Tom Perez just issued a fundraising memo warning that Trump is already $100 million ahead of Democrats and could win another term despite being “unfit.”
In the memo, he wrote, “We face our greatest challenge yet: taking back the White House — and if this week’s shutdown has shown us anything, it’s that Trump is entirely unfit to serve another term as president.”
As it always is two years out, the 2020 race is currently about raising money and hiring staff.
On those counts, Trump is ahead. He has had a re-election team in place for a year and has recently started to hire more. And he has been on a fundraising tear, which concerns Perez and the Democratic National Committee, which is raising money to help the eventual 2020 Democratic nominee.
“Donald Trump already has years of campaigning under his belt and $100 million in the bank. It’s our job to build a strong, strategic party infrastructure that will give our Democratic nominee the best shot at taking him on and winning back the White House,” wrote Perez.
His full note is below:
In one week, when dozens of new Democratic members of Congress are sworn in, we can’t forget the work it took to get them there. Our candidates didn’t win by chance — they won because Democratic supporters like you stepped up in critical moments.
Now, we face our greatest challenge yet: Taking back the White House — and if this week’s shutdown has shown us anything, it’s that Trump is entirely unfit to serve another term as president.
Shortly after the new year, the Democratic presidential primary will be underway, and the DNC is the only official organization that is working to defeat Donald Trump every day from now until Election Day in 2020. If 496 supporters from Washington step up before Monday’s fundraising deadline, we can start making early investments in organizing and staffing that are necessary to defeat Donald Trump and the GOP in 2020.
We’re counting on you to help build the infrastructure to put a Democrat in the White House and to help Democrats win across the board in 2020. Will you make a $3 contribution before Monday’s end-of-year deadline?

With our end-of-year fundraising deadline only a few days away, there’s never been a more important time to show Democratic candidates we’re ready to help them win in 2019 and 2020.
Be one of 496 supporters from Washington to make a $3 contribution before Monday’s end-of-year deadline and help take on Donald Trump and the GOP in 2020.
Thanks for standing with Democrats before Monday’s deadline.

P.S. We took back the House this year, now we have to take back the White House in 2020. It’s going to take a strong party and unprecedented organizing work to defeat Donald Trump, which is why I’m asking you to donate $3 before Monday’s end-of-year fundraising deadline.
