Dan Scavino, Trump’s social media chief, now deputy chief of staff

Dan Scavino Jr., the White House social media wizard and longest serving Donald Trump associate, is moving up.

In the latest sign that the president and new chief of staff Mark Meadows appreciates Scavino’s work to push President Trump’s message on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, he was named assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff for communications.

Scavino is ever-present in Trump’s orbit, capturing photos and video to put out and ready to dish statistics on the popularity of the president’s tweets and videos, such as recently when he told visitors that the Trump campaign’s unexpected Super Bowl ad on criminal justice reform went viral.

“Dan has been one of the president’s most trusted and important aides from the very beginning and will surely continue to excel in his newly elevated role. The White House and the American people are lucky to have him working on their behalf,” said Andy Surabian, a former Trump White House official.

Trump also announced other major additions and promotions today:

  • John C. Fleming, M.D., was named assistant to the president for planning and implementation.
  • New spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany was named assistant to the president and press secretary.
  • Former Pentagon spokeswoman Alyssa Farah was named assistant to the president and director of strategic communications.
  • Nicholas F. Luna was named assistant to the president and director of oval office operations.

The changes and additions come as the administration is trying to control the coronavirus message with a focus on returning the nation back to work and readying for the 2020 campaign fight with Joe Biden.

What many see on social media about Trump goes through Scavino, who is always on his phone and ready to push the record button. He has two of his own Twitter accounts and manages sites and websites for the president, who puts out many of his own tweets, especially those in the early morning.

He often uses his accounts to promote the administration’s policies.

Scavino also captures and tweets many private images, such as Trump’s late night walk to the White House residence last night, and those of the president at Dover Air Force Base.
