Former President George H.W. Bush blazed through Washington last weekend, showing no signs that his 91 years or wheelchair were slowing him down.
The 41st president’s first stop came Thursday when he made a quiet visit to his favorite Washington area restaurant, Peking Gourmet, in northern Virginia. As president, he and former first lady Barbara Bush often dined at the busy storefront restaurant famous for its duck.

They ate early enough so that they could get back in time to watch son Jeb Bush’s performance at the GOP presidential debate.
On Friday, Bush visited the CIA to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his swearing in as CIA director in 1976.
The CIA tweeted out a picture of Bush, in his chair, with CIA Director John Brennan, who was walking with crutches. Bush paused at the lobby memorial to honor CIA officials killed in action.
Saturday, both 41 and the son George W. Bush, the 43rd president, joined with Washington’s political and media world at the annual Alfalfa Dinner. George H.W. sat with former Vice President Dick Cheney, who was getting ready to celebrate the entry of his daughter, Liz Cheney, in the Wyoming House race. Cheney started his Washington career as Wyoming’s sole House member.
Asked about Bush’s health, a friend said, “he’s doing great.”
