Carly Fiorina headlines 40th anniversary of GOP LGBT group

For its 40th anniversary, the GOP LGBT group Log Cabin Republicans is going huge, bringing its biggest event of the year to Washington’s Trump International Hotel and teeing up former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina as the headliner.

“One of the many lessons we learned during the 2016 election cycle was that Carly Fiorina has a lot of LGBT Republican fans. I’m looking forward to welcoming her to our event so that she can see firsthand how much the LGBT community appreciates her,” said Log Cabin President Gregory T. Angelo.

“This will be a big night celebrating a major milestone in Log Cabin Republicans history — our 40th anniversary! Will Ms. Fiorina use the occasion to make some news of her own? We’ll find out on September 27,” he added, dishing the date to Secrets.

Long on a controversial path inside the conservative party, Log Cabin Republicans have found new influence in the Trump administration, the opinion of their leaders often sought by several institutions including the Education Department, United Nation’s and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Fiorina has largely bowed out of politics since the presidential election. There are rumors that she is looking a running for the Virginia Senate Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Tim Kaine, the 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee.

The fundraising dinner is expected to attract more than 300 guests, including dozens of members of the House and Senate. Past speakers include Former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Ambassador Paul Wolfowitz, and Gov. Charlie Baker.
