GOP mocks Obama’s Keystone rejection as pure politics

In a mocking YouTube coming on the three-month anniversary of President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone oil pipeline out of Canada, Republicans Wednesday bluntly charge that the decision was made to shore up environmentalists in time for the reelection.

The video from the National Republican Congressional Committee, which is targeting a swath of states Keystone would have touched, an Obama impersonator is heard making a call to Keystone apologizing for killing the project.

“You see, Keystone, my friends, they don’t want it to work, okay? They just, they just don’t like you. And I need their support. I’m in a weird place right now. It’s an election year. Okay? You understand,” said the video.

The video also comes as the GOP steps up its attack on the president’s inability to cut gas prices and their pitch for more oil drilling and development from American sources.

Below is the transcript:

Hey Keystone, it’s me.
I’ve enjoyed getting to know you, really,
seeing where this could go.
But it turns out,
we just cannot
have a serious relationship.
Okay?
In fact, it’s better if we’re not even friends.
I hoped that could change,
but hope alone can’t carry us.
You see, Keystone,
my friends, they don’t want it to work, okay?
They just, they just don’t like you.
And I need their support.
I’m in a weird place right now.
It’s an election year.
Okay?  You understand.
Okay look, it’s not you, it’s me.
Okay? You’re great,
you’re great
you’re going to make someone else happy.
You should move on,
pursue other options,
I know there are options out there.
Someone that will value your domestic production
and your jobs.
It’s not that I can’t commit,
it’s just I just can’t commit to you, okay,
so I’m ending it.
Done.
Over.
Finished.
It’s tough,
it’s tough being rejected, I know.
But to be honest,
it cannot end any other way.
Gotta run, I have solar on line 2.
