Buzz: Pat Schroeder was Gingrich nemesis, Reagan Foundation hires new boss

When former Rep. Pat Schroeder (D-CO) died this week at 82, the media focused on her legacy of pushing for women’s rights.

But Republicans remembered her for being the biggest thorn in former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s (R-GA) side.

“She made Newt’s life miserable for several years. She was just brutal,” a former top adviser to the Republican said.

  • After more than six years at the Heritage Foundation, John Cooper is moving across Capitol Hill to work for the House Homeland Security Committee as a senior adviser supporting the work of Chairman Mark Green (R-TN).
  • The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute has hired a new president and CEO to replace the retiring John Heubusch. The foundation, which oversees the Reagan Museum, the most-visited of all presidential museums, picked Fox News digital chief David Trulio, who has a long resume of government service. He is expected to oversee a “dynamic expansion of the Reagan Foundation and Institute’s digital offerings, revenue streams, and brand.”

  • There were also more changes at FreedomWorks this week. Margaret Iuculano was named executive vice president, and Marty Irby was named CEO. Iuculano will oversee long-term strategic growth plans, and Irby will head the conservative group’s day-to-day operations.
  • Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) continues to be in the meme business. The newest, on a $10 fundraising sticker, plays off an event when a little bird landed on his podium as he was giving a speech in the 2016 presidential campaign. “I think there’s some symbolism here. This bird is really a dove asking us for world peace — no more wars!” Sanders said.
