Laura Ingraham to Trump: Stick to ‘America First agenda’

Laura Ingraham, the media mogul who was among the first to jump on the Trump train, is urging the president to stick to his “America First” agenda and resist temptations to follow a “conventional Bush-style Republican approach” on the economy and foreign policy.

In announcing a new book about Trump’s populist movement and election on a day when the administration is defending its surprise cruise missile attack on Syria and facing reports that centrist Wall Street Republicans have gained power in the West Wing, she told Secrets:

“If Donald Trump stays true to his America First agenda, addressing the plight of our middle class, our open borders, our poorly drafted trade deals, and our muddled foreign policy, his movement will grow and he’ll be successful. But if he allows his administration to drift away from those core tenets, toward a more conventional Bush-style Republican approach, the results will be catastrophic for his presidency and the country we love.”

Earlier Friday, the new St. Martin’s Press imprint All Points Books announced that its first book to be published will be by Ingraham. “Billionaire at the Barricades: The Populist Revolution from Reagan to Trump,” will be released in October.

In it she explains Trump populism and urges him to stick with it.

“Among the questions she addresses is whether President Trump’s agenda will clear the barricades before him—the bipartisan political establishment, the media and the special interests that plague Washington—or be blocked by them. She warns that it would be calamitous for the country and for the president’s chance for reelection, if he jettisoned the populist ideals that were vital to his victory,” said St. Martin’s.

To Secrets, she said the book will show how Trump seized on the public’s view that Washington is a pit of lies.

“Donald Trump ran one of the smartest, and in many ways the bravest, political campaigns in U.S. history. With a refreshing populist conservative zeal, he won states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania that all the ‘experts’ had essentially written off for Republicans. He exposed the bipartisan establishment from Bush to Obama to the delight of Americans who had grown weary of politicians who made promises they couldn’t keep,” she said.

Ingraham host a popular daily radio show on 225 stations, is a best-selling author, and co-founder of the news site LifeZette which has grown in influence with its Trump coverage.

She is also a long-time Trump ally who uses her media to keep him on his path to fulfilling his campaign promises.

“Unlike so many of my colleagues in the media,” said Ingraham, “I instantly understood Trump’s appeal and ignored those who repeatedly wrote his political obituary. Most of his critics and naysayers still don’t understand the bipartisan appeal of the populist, pro-life, pro-growth, America First agenda on which he ran. In Billionaire at the Barricades, I take readers behind the scenes at the defining moments of a populist movement that began decades ago and map out where I think it should (and will) take us, whether fully realized by this administration—or not.”

In the release, All Points Books editorial director Adam Bellow said, “I’m thrilled to be launching All Points with a major new book by Laura Ingraham—her first in several years. Laura has tremendous credibility and was way ahead of the pack in seeing that Trump could win the nomination and the presidency. Her insights into the twilight struggle between this growing populist insurgency and the Washington establishment derive from long experience on the barricades herself. That makes Billionaire at the Barricades not just the story of the populist movement and Donald Trump, but her own story as well.”
