Trump Jr. urges MAGA votes for Sean Spicer on Dancing with the Stars to drive Hollywood ‘crazy’

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer is doing what he does best in his bid to push deep into the Dancing with the Stars season. And it’s not dancing.

He and his Washington fans are mounting a classic “get out the vote” campaign to help him overcome critical comments from the ABC show’s three judges and host Tom Bergeron.

The effort to get Trump fans to text “SEAN to 21523” during the show, complete with a website, hats, and helpful urging from Donald Trump Jr., is especially strong in the Washington area, where the show will be preempted by Monday Night Football featuring the Washington Redskins.

It started even before Spicer hit the stage. “Wanna create an emotional meltdown in Hollyweird? Vote for @seanspicer to win Dancing with the Stars tonight and every night he’s on. @seanspicer is a good guy and a brave sport to go on DWTS. Let’s show him some love,” tweeted former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

The Trump family has also joined in.

“Every MAGA supporter in the country needs to get out the vote for Spicer because nothing would drive liberal Hollywood or the left-wing media more crazy than Sean salsa dancing his way to a victory on Dancing with the Stars,” Trump Jr. told Secrets.

And friend and former Bush administration official Ron Bonjean added, “To stay in the game, Spicer can’t rely on the judges unless he becomes a dancing machine overnight. They are giving off strong vibes that they don’t like him, and his days are numbered. If he can activate Trump voters who want to send a message to Hollywood that their opinions matter, then Spicer could be around for a very long time.”

For Spicer and his professional partner Lindsay Arnold, the GOTV campaign is critical since he scored second to last in the show’s debut and has confessed that he’s not the best dancer.

And just by reaching out to the president’s constituency for support, he is also likely to inspire a voting backlash by anti-Trump advocates, bringing politics into a show that has largely shunned it. Already, former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman has been critical.

Following his debut, most notable for his fluorescent lime green puffy shirt, Spicer launched his campaign with a website, SpicerArnold.com. “We’re going to need all the votes we can get to win the Mirror Ball,” he cheered.

He also began distributing typical campaign trinkets like buttons, hats, and T-shirts. And it is possible that President Trump will tweet a second recommendation that his supporters call in to help Spicer. Vice President Mike Pence is also a fan and may weigh in.

Spicer has been busy practicing for the next round, but he did make time to appear on the Washington Examiner’s Examining Politics podcast with host Larry O’Connor.

“We can really go out there and rally our base and get out there and send a message that ‘hey, we want to keep Sean on the show,’” said Spicer.

“Dancing. That’s not my strength. I need votes,” he said, adding that Monday is his 48th birthday.

He is oddly popular, though. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Spicer’s appearance, stuck at the back end of the show, boosted DWTS ratings.

And while few were talking about his dancing, instead focusing on his shirt, he made the headlines of many stories about the debut.

“If you’re talking about the shirt and you’re not talking about the dancing, that’s great,” he told O’Connor.
